Common Questions and Answers

What do the error codes mean?

  • Error E0: A problem with the cartridge is indicated by a blinking Ink Level icon. Check for a message in the HP software and follow the instructions to resolve it.

  • Error E1/E2: A paper size or length mismatch has occurred. You can press the Resume button to continue printing with the error, or load paper that matches the size of the page you want to print.

  • Error E3: The print carriage is jammed or stalled. Open the cartridge access door, remove any jammed paper or objects blocking the carriage, and then press the Resume button to continue printing.

  • Error E4: There is a paper jam. Clear the jam from the printer to resolve the issue.

  • Error E5: The scanner is not working. Press the Cancel button and try scanning again. If it still fails, turn the printer off and on again.

  • Error E6: The printer is in an error state. Restart the printer by turning it off, unplugging the power cord, waiting a minute, and then plugging it back in and turning it on again.

Paper and Jam Issues

What do I do if there is a paper jam?

  • Input tray: Press the Cancel button, and then remove any jammed paper or foreign objects.

  • Output tray: Press the Cancel button, and then gently pull the paper out of the output tray.

  • Cartridge access area: Press the Cancel button and open the cartridge access door. Unplug the printer, check for jammed paper, and carefully remove it.

  • Bottom of the printer: Turn off and unplug the printer. Lift the front of the printer to rest it on its rear, open the bottom access door, and remove any jammed paper.

Cartridge Issues

What do the Ink Alert lights and icons mean?

  • If the Error icon and one of the Ink Level icons are blinking, the corresponding cartridge might be missing, installed improperly, or still has plastic tape on it.

  • If both Ink Level icons and the Ink Alert light are blinking, one or both cartridges may be missing, improperly installed, or incompatible.

  • If one or both Ink Level icons and the Resume light are blinking, the cartridge may be counterfeit, previously used, or very low on ink.

Connectivity Problems

How do I fix network connection issues?

  • If the Wi-Fi light is blinking, the printer is not connected to a network or is trying to connect.

  • If the Wi-Fi alert is on and the signal bars are cycling, there is no Wi-Fi signal. Make sure your router is on and move the printer closer to it.

  • If the Wi-Fi alert blinks in sync with the Wi-Fi light, the printer has a problem connecting to the network. Press the Wi-Fi and Information buttons together to run a wireless test and review the report for solutions.
